RTT: Butter Pee and movies

Stacy

Ah, my dear readers. I have been ignoring you. Not because I don't love you, but because I've got stuffs going on. Okay, part of that stuffs was the latest of C.S. Harris's Sebastian St. Cyr Novels, When Maidens Mourn came out last week (it was so good!!!) and I had to read it ASAP. I woke up on the 5th and it was right there on my beloved Kindle! I locked myself in the bathroom (the only place I can get complete privacy while the baby sleeps and read and read and read. I even scheduled loads of independent school work for Indy because I knew the book would drop that week. I'm either completely insane or ridiculously clever. Don't tell me which one you think it is.

Now, onto the randoms.

*Last week, Indy was walking through the living room and out of nowhere looked over at me and said "My pee smells like butter."  What do you say to that?

*Why is when someone says asshole on TV, they bleep out the "hole" and not the "ass?"  Doesn't that seem, wait for it....ass backwards??

*Apparently, Star Trek's Mr. Spock's first name is "Edward."  Huh.

*James Doohan (Mr. Scot on Star Trek) was a true war hero. An enlisted man who rose to captain in the Royal Canadian Artillery, he was with the Royal Canadian Artillery on Juno Beach on D-Day. He was shot seven times, with an eighth bullet lodging in his metal cigarette case. Three bullets shredded the middle finger of his right hand. Eventually, the finger was amputated, which is occasionally noticeable in Star Trek episodes and movies.

*I don't know why I'm on Star Trek.  I read an article about it last week.  I'm a dork.

*A while back we watched the Disney movie My babysitter is a Vampire."  Believe it or not, it wasn't too bad.  Well, now they've made  it into a series on Disney XD and he loves it.  He watched on last week though that scared the beejeebers out of him.  He was too scared to go to bed.  I, being a genius, got out a bottle of garlic salt and "sprinkled" it all around his bedroom to keep the vampires out.  He went right to sleep.

*After typing "believe it or not" up there ^ I'm now singing the theme song to "Greatest American Hero."  Anyone remember that?  It came on when I was a kid and I loved it.
Believe or not,
I'm walking on air,
I never thought I could feel so free-ee-ee
Flying away on a wing and a prayer
Who could it be?
Believe or not,
It's just me

*Today is the 100th anniversary of girl scouts.  The oldest living GS is Amelia Bowden England.  She joined the GS in 1914.

*The Oreo was 100 a week or so ago.  It did not originally have the cream filling.  That came along in 1952.  More than 345 billion Oreo cookies have been consumed to date. More than 7.5 billion Oreo cookies are consumed each year, which comes out to 625 million per month and 20.5 million per day.

*James Bond and I saw Jack and Jill last weekend.  While it was predictable and had lots of crude humor (it was an Adam Sandler movie), I did NOT know that my beloved Johnny Depp was in it!  He played himself and "Jill" didn't know who he was.  Yeah, as if that's possible.

*Speaking of my beloved, did you read about my moral dilemma regarding him when we took our cruise?  You should.

*The "save" icon on Microsoft Word shows a floppy disk, with the shutter on backwards.  Who even remembers floppy disks anymore?

*I worry that my iPhone thinks I'm an idiot.

*Living on a military post is often like living in a fish bowl.  I think the military got some sort of deal on windows and decided to put  as many in each apartment as they could.  Our apartment is 1400sqft and it has 15 windows plus 1 glass door (leading to the balcony).  That's a lot of windows.  There are 3 groups of 3 windows each (1set in the master bed, 1 set in the dining room and one set in the living room, which butt up to the glass door).  Not only are the groups of window big, they are also tall-approx 5 feet tall.

*There is a building directly across from us that also has loads of windows (not as many as us because the apts are smaller, but still, a lot).  Last week I was talking on the phone and standing near the glass door when I looked across and saw something sitting on the table that I hadn't seen in years.  I called James Bond over and showed him.  He laughed and said he didn't know people still had them.  Know what it was?  One of those old, great big computer monitors.  You know, the kind we all had before flat screens.  It was so weird to see.  It also reminded me of dial up internet.  Remember that?  Dial, screech, beeps and boops-enough time to get a snack-more beeps and boops and FINALLY internet.  Which was slow as molasses.

*Good grief, The Greatest American Hero, big computer monitors, floppy disks and dial up internet.  I'm showing my age.

*I did some Star Trek randoms, so now let's do some Star Wars!
-"Vader" is Dutch for "father."
-Luke Skywalker's name was originally going to be Dirk Starkiller.
-Nick Nolte was considered for Han Solo
-So was Tom Seleck, but he couldn't because of Magnum, PI
-The name of the planet Tatooine came from the town of Tataouine in Tunisia where the movie was filmed.
-Getting R2D2 to work was apparently problematic and the unit kept picking up Tunisian radio stations
-In the Jawa's Sandcrawler, a shiny droid says "Je t'ai coupé les patates avec des choux," something in French that means "I cut your potatoes with cabbages."

And I have just cemented myself as a geek.   Indy loves me for it though.
*Wait!  Bonus Star Wars AND Indiana Jones Trivia!!!
-In Raiders of the Lost Ark, when they are in the Well of Souls, you can see hieroglyphics of C3PO and R2D2 on the wall.
-The plane in the opening sequence registration code: OB-CPO.
-In The Temple of Doom, the club Willie sings in is called Club Obi-Wan

-In Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, in the scene when they are in the chamber with the aliens, there are mini R2D2- and C3P0's on the chairs
-Also in KoCS, in the Mayan temple, Indy comments "I have a bad feeling about this." Han Solo said the same line in Star Wars.

Just call me Geek in High Heels

I can't believe it' s been almost a year and I haven't posted this!

Do you remember the big Indiana Jones Birthday Party I posted the prep for last year? I promised to post photos of the actual party and never did! We're now looking at a big fat pirate party next month (pray for me) so I think it's about time I posted the photos from last year. It really was the most fun party we've ever done and now I'm under pressure to top it with pirates. Think I could get Johnny Depp to show up dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow?!?! Purely for Indy, of course. Or not.
Enjoy the photos and maybe it won't take me a year to post photos from the pirate party.

Celebrities invading my dreams and H1N1

I've been having really weird dreams lately. They've been chock full of celebs. Isn't that odd? Last night was particularly celeb filled. Harrison Ford (yes, please!) has been in my dreams for about 4 nights now and visited me again last night. He's quite gentlemanly in my dreams, much to my displeasure. Where's the Indiana Jones smirk? The Han Solo confidence? ("I love you." "I know.") Kiss me damn you! We were in a movie together 2 nights ago (in my dream of course) and we were slated to do a love scene, but I never got to because my bodyguards (why did I have bodyguards?) kept getting killed (maybe I just answered my own question there) and it turns out my assistant was trying to kill me because she didn't get the part and thought if I were out of the way, she would be asked to take over my role. HF did rescue me, but I woke up before any kissing could commence. Drat.
Last night I was shopping with Paris Hilton! Gasp! What the heck was she doing in my dream? Granted, she was buying (that's right, I'd totally mooch off her, she's rich as Croesus, people and I can be bought with shiny/sparkly things) but still, I had to put up with her. In my dream! I couldn't get away. Quelle horror!
Since I've been having my celeb filled nocturnal musings, I've been visited by (wow, sounds very Dickensian, doesn't it?): Harrison Ford, Lauren Graham, Martha Stewart (it was NOT a good thing, she was telling me how unorganized I am), Robbie Williams (who sang me a lovely song), Paris Hilton (eek!), Pope Not!John-Paul, and the guy from the Verizon Wireless commercials ("Can you hear me now?"-Do they still run those in the States?). Isn't that weird?
Sadly though, RPattz has been conspicuously absent. Why, RPattz? Why? I haven't gone over to the Taylor Lautner faction. He's cute, but he still looks like he's 12 to me. I'm Team Edward all the way! Call me.
Johhny Depp has been a no-show as well! What did I do, Johnny? What did I do? You know it's not serious between me and RPattz. He's just an eye-candy diversion while you're off filming your next movie. You're still my number one. Promise. I'd totally kick him out if you came by. Well, maybe I'd just stash him in the bathroom, but you know what I mean.

And on a completely unrelated note, the H1N1 has decided to park itself over a huge chunk of my family in the States! WHAT? I know! My mom and step-dad both have it, my cousin, another cousin's daughter, another cousin's two sons and husband and who knows who else? Isn't that nuts? My mom and step-dad are feeling much better now than they were last week. My mom was really sick but wanted to chat with Indy on the webcam last week, so we did. She looked, well, puce. Papa (step-dad) didn't look much better. Indy and I chatted with them for a while and later that evening were both not feeling well. I freaked out! Surely we couldn't catch swine flu from the webcam, could we? Of course not! We were apparently overly tired from a busy day and were full of vip and vim-what does that mean?-after a good night's sleep. Until they're all better though, I'm not taking any chances. No more webcamming until they have a clean bill of health. You can't be too careful.

The birthday party by which all future parties will be measured

We did it!   We threw the coolest birthday party ever.  Seriously.  Ever.  Ev-er.  It was an Indiana Jones extravaganza.  Indy could not have been more excited.  M and our AMAZING neighbors and I have been working non-stop to pull this party off.  I have the best neighbors in the world.   You can’t have them.  I couldn’t have pulled this off without them.  Here are a few of the prep photos:
DSC_1251 DSC_1252 DSC_1254 DSC_1256
Huh?  Huh?  How cool is that?  M and his ‘brofriend’ set up the base camp outside.  S (the brofriend) has cool stuff from all over the world and the party was an excuse for him to show it off.

We had an archeological dig site and the “Plank of Destiny”

In the basement of our building we set up Pankot Palace, a jungle and temple ruins.

Doesn’t this look like fun?  I’ll post photos of the actual party tomorrow.  You’ll want to see those.  And yes,General and Mrs. Ham did show up and yes, Cooper made the General eat a chocolate spider.  The look on M’s face in the photo is priceless.

The Adventures of Pocket Indy: Part 1

Have you ever been over to Lauren's Bite? No? Well, you totally should. She's cute and hilarious and loves Twilight. We could be BFF's. You know if she weren't soooo cute. And skinny. And lived in AZ. Anyhoo, she has her very own Pocket Edward (Cullen, of course) that goes on adventures. Edward is quite the little man. He even cooks for her. Cooks, people. Cooks! Ah what I wouldn't give to have Edward Cullen cooking for me. I'd like the life size version though. And even though I'm allergic to feather pillows I'd keep a few on hand in case he gets the urge to bite them. ;)
BTW, Pocket Edward has been kidnapped! Quelle Horror! I'm anxiously awaiting the post, so I can find out what happens!

We went to Schwetzingen about 2 weeks ago and Indy brought along a few of his Indiana Jones toys. I decided, while we were on the grounds of the palace that we could make our own Pocket Indy adventures! Huzzah! It was actually a lot of fun. Even M got in on it by being the official Indy Positioner. Not that PI (Pocket Indy) really needed help, but he wanted to make M feel included so, you know. Indy came up with where PI should explore, M positioned helped PI and I took photographic evidence of his adventure.

Here he is at the mouth of a tree cave. What could lie inside? Treasure? A temple? Probably a squirrel so we talked PI out of going.

We could not talk him out of scaling the Ivy though.

Wait....where did he go? Oh, PI, you're so good at camouflage!

He sees something. Over.........there! Careful PI!

This does not look safe. M tried to help him down, but PI was having none of it.

AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

PI had to hold up a boulder to keep it from crushing....something. Look how strong he is! Hold on, PI! Hold on!

Oh, NOOOOOOOOOOOOS!

Fortunately, PI did not get crushed and ended up scaling the "mountain." He wanted us to follow.

Oh, there's more. Much, much more, but we'll save those adventures for another day. Maybe I'll get my own Pocket Edward and take them both along. Edward could be a huge help to Indy. He's fast, he can't get hurt, he can jump, he can see in the dark, he doesn't need to sleep, and he's quite a bit taller than Indy. Oh, imagine the possibilities.
I hope you enjoyed the silliness that this post was.

Halloween and Pics of the apartment (part 1)

I hope you all had a lovely Halloween and for those of you that celebrate it, a Blessed Samhain. Indy dressed up as.....Indiana Jones. Are you surprised?

This is a group of our neighbors. Like the Fraulein? Lovely, isn't she? And so.....buxom.

We had a great time. Children are not allowed in the stairwells, so people handing out candy sit outside in front of the stairwells. It's like a big party. People barbecue and have all sorts of activities. One quad had a Halloween movie projected onto the side of the building and another had turned their gazebo into a very scary haunted house like thing that the kids had to go into to get candy. Spooky! One of the stairwells was even passing out cups of Gluwein to the grown ups. This is a warm mulled wine and perfect for a chilly, drizzly night.

This morning I went outside and took some photos of the new digs. This is our building. See the windows on the 3rd floor to the right? That's our apartment.

Let's get closer. This is the front door. We have a back door too. We park behind the building.

Oh, look! Who could have made this lovely fall display? ;)

So, up the stairs we go. First floor. Second floor. Buns of Steel! Third floor! Here we are. Welcome! This is our entry way.

Into the living/dining room. It's a large room. Rather messy right now though. I'll post a new pic when I've made it all pretty with my stuff. That furniture is gov't issue. It is NOT pretty, but I'm thankful for it as it is far better than sitting on the floor for 2 months.

The kitchen is just to the right. It's big and chockablock full of cabinets. The cabinets directly above and below the counter open to the other side as well. Handy for setting the table.

Here's the other side. It's all very....beige.

If we go to the dining room window, we have a lovely view of the quad.

There's more to see, but I'll save that for another day.

School stuff

I previously showed you our Amber Dig on Fun Friday, so I thought I'd show you some of the other stuff we do/did/use in our homeschooling.

When we studies dinosaurs we made a paper mache bone out of a paper towel tube, crumpled newspaper and 100 mile and hour tape (it's an Army thing-they call it that because it's supposed to hold up to 100 mph). I learned something that day: I do NOT like paper mache. MESSY! Indy liked though. And yes, he is wearing an old shirt backwards. M contributed it to the cause. The cause being keeping Indy's shirt clean.

Cool huh? We painted it white but I forgot to take a picture of that.

This is a little game we play with site words. See those M&M's? If he can read all the words in front of it (starting from the bottom left) he can eat the M&M. If he gets a word wrong he's got to start over. I'm a freaking genius, I tell you.

This is the chalkboard we use. They were obviously taken a while back. In case you're wondering, the word below Wednesday is how you say it (Wed) in German. We also talk about the weather and how you would write the date numerically.

This is our wipe board. Like the frame? 70% off at Hobby Lobby! Cost me $8! Woohoo! Yes, I do realize these are HUGE words for a 6 year old, but I don't believe in dumbing things down for him. We discuss every word and I quiz him on the meaning. I don't expect him to read them just yet (though that would be awesome), just be familiar with them.

And look! We made a volcano! There's a small water bottle in the center, surrounded by crumpled newspaper and 100 mile an hour tape (seeing a trend here?) and covered in air dry clay. After the clay dried, we painted it (actually Indy and M did this while I went shopping-yea!). Isn't it cool?

Look at it explode! Here's a tip, if you put a few drops of liquid dish soap inside the volcano with the baking soda it will bubble for a long time. Also, a few drops of red and yellow food coloring in the vinegar makes it look more like lava. I think M and I liked this as much as Indy did.

I can't even begin to describe how excited Indy was when I pulled out this new box of crayons. He's never had such a variety of colors before. The possibilities are endless. I can only imagine how much he'd love the box of 96.

We're beginning our study of archaeology, which is obviously right up Indy's alley. This was how he spent some of his outside time today. Isn't he adorable?

Tell me you can't hear the theme song when you look at this picture. Dum-dee-dum-dummmm. Dum-dee-dum. Dum-dee-dum-dum. Dumm-dee-dumm-dum-dum.
