In yesterday's RTT, I mentioned that I had been doing Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. Apparently so are a lot of other people! I got several emails from readers who said they're doing it, or know other bloggers who are. It's like there's a whole Shredding cult. I was unaware!
For those of you who are not familiar with the 30 Day Shred, it is a workout DVD that is led by the Biggest Loser's Jillian Michaels. You know her. She's the mean, fit little woman who yells at the contestants and makes them workout until they puke. Sheer viewing pleasure. Say what you will about her, she gets results. I need results, so I decided to give her a try. Holy @#$%! It is HARD! She doesn't yell at you on the DVD, which I was kind of disappointed in. I mean, who wants a nice Jillian? If I wanted nice I would have ordered Bob's DVD. Huh, he's nice on the show, so I wonder if he yells on his DVD? Anyone know?
Back to the Shred. It's 3 20 minute workouts that will get results (according to the cover-we'll see), that are in a 3,2,1 sequence. 3 minutes of strength, 2 minutes of cardio, and 1 minute of abs. You do the 3,2,1, three times (each time with different exercises). Sounds easy, right? 20 minutes? Is that all? Really? Cake walk. WRONG. It is a tough 20 minutes. By the time I'm done I look like those people who stumble out of a spin class. You know, red faced, sweaty, a little delirious. Seriously. In 20 minutes. There are no breaks in those 20 minutes and the exercises are hard. And that was on level 1! This morning I moved to level 2. Ten minutes in I longed for level 1. I'm scared to death of level 3. I won't even watch it. I'm that afraid. In the 2 levels that I've done, Jillian makes some (probably unintentional) funny comments. My favorite is "The pain is just fear leaving your body." Well, if that's true, then my body is terrified. I think the only thing that doesn't hurt is my hair. In the shower this morning, I tried to lift my arm to soap it up and could barely get it to shoulder level. She's evil. Evil, I say. All this had better work. Do you Shred? If so, how's it going? I want to hear about it.
If you don't Shred and would like to,click that link over there and order your own copy. I don't think you'll regret it. You may hate me for a while, but if you get results you'll love me. As you should.

I'm on break from Shredding!! My husband love it and swears it's working. He is in really good shape and it kicks is butt. I pretty much yell at her and tell her to shut up! But I'm fat and she is not so there you have it!
I bought it for all of my "get in shape" New Year's resolutions. Mostly my daughter uses it. She did Level 3 for the first time yesterday and she couldn't walk for the rest of the day- and she's a supple, young 15 year old!
The first time I tried it I lasted 3 minutes on Level 1 and then colapsed in agony. I did manage to get through Level 1 a few times after that, but I felt like I needed a wheelchair- or maybe a stretcher.
I really like Jillian because I truly need someone to kick me in the butt when it comes to exercise, but I find that I always fall back to sweet little Leslie Sansone's DVDs. She and her helpers look like the real people I see in everyday life, ones that have some cellulite that just want go away. Plus, she just makes me walk and lift a few weights. In other words, she let's me off the hook- and that's pretty much what I'm looking for these days.
I do shred.
Actually I am on kind of a break because school is so demanding right now.
It does actually work and I need to get back to it.
Seriously!
Last year when I started first I lost like 10 lbs over 2 months or so.
I only do level 3 now.
So when I get back to it after a break the first two days are like hell but then it starts to feel good. :)
BTW: Went to TK Maxx last Saturday and I got neither shoes nor clothes...just a new purse...
This sounds like torture to me! Yes, I really need to exercize but I don't think my old body could last long enough with this to see results. Thanks for your visit and if you figure out a way to make the barrel chandelier I would be forever grateful!
I didn't realize it was only 20 min segments! I am totally getting that DVD for after I drop this rug rat.
Actually, the Level 1 times out at more like 27 minutes, not 20. And you feel all 27!
If I do it for more than a few days in a row, my knees ache so badly I can hardly walk, so now I alternate the shred with other workouts.
And after two months, I'm STILL on Level 1. Sheesh.
I've done the Shred and it's TOUGH! I've had the dvd for a few months now and I've never done level 3. I just keep doing 1 and 2 because they're so hard!
