Meta Monday: It's all about the lighting

It's Meta Monday again! Are you as excited as I am? You know how I love to see all the metamorphoses (metamorphi?). Mine is nothing spectacular, but it makes me ridiculously happy.

I'm sure you wonder where the gazillions of dollars in the military budget go each year. Let me assure you, it's not on decor for military housing. See our fancy light fixtures circa 1971?

Oh yeah, wouldn't you love to look at this every meal? Oh, it's so hideous. It pains me. Pains me. The light is glaring and hideous.

Well, look at it now! Isn't it beautiful?!?!?! It took M about 15 minutes to put it up.

So pretty, so whimsical. So much better!

I bought it at a local chain store called Poco for 68 Euro, which is about $85. It can be used back in the US too. All we have to do it put 110v bulbs in it (we use 230v bulbs). For less than $100 and 15 minutes of work the whole look of the room changed. And it makes me ridiculously happy.

  1. I always wondered how lenient they were about making changes to govt housing. We live off base right now, but will probably live on base at our next station...and I want to PAINT! I'm tired of white walls!

  2. Light fixtures DO make a difference -- your new one is really pretty (and you can take it with you!)

  3. I love the new light - something so small can often make a huge difference in a room - like new curtains in a different shade, I love the change with the seasons, make the whole room look different. Good job! :)

  22. *** Congrats on making your quarters more Y*O*U!!! How LOVELY and how FUN, and I KNOW you are just thrilled!!! It always makes SUCH a difference when you do things like this~~~ and I "GUESS" I should know... My husband was Army for 38 years(yes, 38 ~ that's NOT a typo!). We moved around 27-28 times, spending 18 years in Europe over that time, two in Saudi Arabia & two in Vienna, Austria. Making/creating a new home was always such FUN, but working with gov't quarters certainly wasn't such a dream most of the time (in later years as great as quarters GOT, we STILLLLL had those white walls!)~~~ ANyhoo, wanted to say hello, & THANK YOU and YOUR HUSBAND (& your children, too!)for all your many sacrifices~~~ AND for keeping your sense of humor about it all! YOU ARE VERY MUCH APRECIATED, believe me! Most warmly, Linda
